Life Enrichment Program
At Northstar we have designed a special domain known as Life Enrichment Program, to give our young learners a critical awareness of what is happening around them, to enable them to respond appropriately to changing situations, while at the same time remaining firmly rooted to their family, culture, national and international ethos.
Life Enrichment Program brings an awareness and understanding to our learners on the purpose of being educated and leads them to develop oneself as a fully integrated adult, with a mature spirituality and a serious commitment to create a clear vision of life to lead an independent and responsible life ahead, when they finish their school and face the challenges of the global world.
Today's life and work environments require far more than thinking skills and content knowledge. It is important to have the ability to navigate the complex life and work environments in the globally competitive information age, for that it requires learners to pay rigorous attention to developing adequate life and career skills.
The learners of Grades 1 & 2 are learning about Uniqueness: I know myself and things around me and Grades 3 to 8 are exploring about knowing themselves through various activities and the topic is The wonder of me: I am unique.
The learners discover the uniqueness of their personality and accept their own personal worth. They choose a symbol from their surrounding that best depicts them. Symbols maybe of any sort e.g. leaf, stone, brick, roots, sand, ball, eraser etc. The emphasis is laid on the whole person and not one facet or a quality. After choosing the symbol they draw the object and write the reasons for their choice, their experiences while exploring and choosing the symbol. The learners form small groups and share.
They further do a colourful palm print on a paper and write few qualities about themselves on it, it is then displayed on the wall, they read the different qualities of the group and compare the list of common and new qualities. They pick up any one or more qualities they would like to develop and then form small groups and share their feelings about what struck them and their experiences. This enables them to know and realize their qualities and know other person's qualities too.
They reflect and share on the word uniqueness i.e. each one of us is a special, different, important and a unique person.
