The Jungle Book at Phantasmagoria

The Jungle Book at Phantasmagoria

The Northstar School brings Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book to life at Phantasmagoria.

Deep within the moonlit Seeonee hills, young Mowgli learns the wild ways of the jungle alongside Baloo, Bagheera, and the loyal wolf pack. But what happens when the storybook world breaks its boundaries, and the mischievous Bandarlog steps out of the jungle pages to stumble straight into Northstar’s library? Pure phantasmagoric chaos breaks loose.

This year, our youngest theatrical performers from Grades 1 & 2 are stepping into the spotlight to present a classic tale reimagined, blending timeless literature, wild adventure, and a touch of magical wonder.

A Literary Journey

Written by Rudyard Kipling (1865–1936), an English novelist born in Mumbai, The Jungle Book (1894) was deeply inspired by his childhood in India. Kipling captured the rich wilderness, the intricate relationships between animals, and the legendary "Law of the Jungle," bringing the spirit of the Indian landscape to global acclaim.

At Northstar, bringing this classic to our stage offers our learners a unique opportunity to connect with storytelling heritage while exploring themes of belonging, courage, and community.

The Phantasmagoria Twist

While audiences may know the traditional adventures of Mowgli, Baloo, and Bagheera, this production comes with an enchanting, unexpected twist. As Mowgli learns the wisdom of his jungle mentors, the wild antics of the Bandarlog cause a tear in the storybook realm. Crossing over into Northstar's library, the monkeys bring unexpected guests along for the ride, including whimsical icons of other stories. Watch as the moonlit Indian jungle magically collides with Wonderland right before your eyes.

Celebrating Our Northstarians

Putting on a production of this scale is a significant milestone for our Grade 1 and 2 learners. From learning complex character traits and stage presence to understanding how different stories can dialogue with one another, our little stars have poured immense energy, curiosity, and creativity into their rehearsals.
